EGR blanking, what happens next

Postby limitedblack » Tue May 21, 2013 4:25 pm

Well there must be a dozen topics on this, and plenty of pros/cons lists, but I was just wondering, what happens on the exhaust side of the EGR valve once it is blanked. Being a plumber (allegedly), its always a bad thing to have a "dead leg" in pipe work, and as the mk7 has a fairly long run to the valve then this can't be good can it? Anyone taken bits off after a blanking, or had any issues other than MIL lights due to its blocking? :-|

Nope, 24k suppose its time. TBH I get times when I don't want to touch the van, then I will have a splurge on it, now isn't the time ;)

Talking about inlets... Mine is really, really bad, so are the ports on the head. Is there any risk if I try scraping all the crap out of the ports? Or if anything falls in and gets past a valve will it just be burnt up in the combustion process?

I thought that, but then bits must break off anyway, so it's already eating them now :o

So moving on, when blanking the EGR, don't you need a second gasket to seal both sides of the plate?
