So the later 3.91 axle, 6 speed gearbox and prop will all fit the earlier Mk7's?

I did mine recently and using a 2 post ramp, hardest part was lifting the box above my head and then tilting it forward onto the engine fook me i got angry lol, you really need a jacking device to lift the engine while you push it in, i know you have a jack but if the van is on the floor while you do this job i think you'll struggle a bit.

Starter stays in situ but jus unbolt it and move it back to clear the box and not fowl your attempts of refitting the box.

The exhaust front rubber mount wants removing so the flexi/exhaust hangs down and you can move it to the side to give room for the box, the heat shield wants bending so it goes away over the exhaust box.
Prop shaft will come off from the 2 front mounts and the rear spline should let you slip it off and off the van but if working on the floor it really will be a fun job lol.

Been reading through this with interest.
Got a Mk7 RWD here with a shot gearbox. Been following the thread with subframe drop etc. This one is a 5 speed with cable gear change.
Does the exhaust need to be removed to allow the gear change mechanism clear the tank & exhaust? Will the bell housing come over the subframe ok? Need to do it right first time as flying solo & doing it lying on my back.
Many thanks in advance all,
