Van security - pedal box and other stuff

Postby Spinal Tap » Sun Sep 22, 2013 3:40 pm

Afternoon.

Just looking at some options to make my Mk7 a little less desirable as a target for the thieves.

Want to put a slamlock on the rear doors and maybe change out the tibbe lock on the drivers door.

Also seen http://www.garrisonlocks.co.uk/garrison-shop.asp?product=Pedal%20Boxes&cat=47 at Garrison.

Any thoughts from you lot in the know?

Ive fitted the Garrison replock to the door. I was looking at the pedal box before then I thought that its not really visible, so I went and brought a Disklok which covers the complete steering wheel of which is also insurance approved.
I have also fitted wiring protector plates that protect the rear door wiring loom, just to be on the safe side.

Just looking for stuff that will make my van less desirable than some other blokes.

Reckon if they want it they will nick it but think they would rather move on to another van if it looks awkward.

Thought I'd just stick it in the passenger footwell when not in use where the disclock is much bigger to store.

Still looking for ideas really and reckon physical stuff is better cos it seems the technical electronic stuff is what the thieves are finding easy.

Options open though.

The great thing about a van is that it has a huge amount of storage space in the back, only joking, if it's anything like mine it's nearly full most of the time. I thought about doing what a friend of a friend does, he has a black van like mine, he had some magnetic signs made up that say ******** Funeral Directors, he reckons he can park anywhere & who would want to break in to it or steal it if there might be a body in the back?

Any ideas for signs on a white van? :D

I know I can stick it in the back but tend to park up reversing up to the wall at work and at home which is where it spends most of its parked time - thought the pedalbox could just be slid across the footwell.

Is the Hykee lock worth almost twice the price of the Garrison replock?

I was thinking of disconnecting the rear door from the central looking and buying a remote central locking kit just for the rear doors.

You would have two remotes but at least they can't get in the back by pick locking the front door lock.

It would only stop they once they are in but I have done this in the past to older cars , put a switch between the ignition wires.
Hide the switch somewhere.?

Just a couple of ideas.
