Gear ratios my 'new' transit

Postby pcatterall » Mon Apr 14, 2014 7:56 pm

Our first weekend out in our 'new' transit which I have been fitting out as a camper since December!!
The van seems great more power and quieter than our previous. The new van is 2010 MWB hi top 2.4 . 115 T330M RWD
Only slight disappointment was that the engine revs at 2800 when m'way cruising I had hoped that the 6th gear would have dropped the revs down a bit.
I wonder if this indicates we have a lower ratio box but cant seem to find this info.
If we have, is it possible to swop it and would it be expensive if I could source used parts ( is it just the rear diff or the gear box??
Cheers guys.

Put your reg number into Ford Etis and it'll tell you what diff you have.

Most likely either 3.73 or 4.27. Gear ratios are the same

Don't know the diff ratio at 70mph we are doing 2700/2800 rpm so I suspect we have the lower gear ratio. We are nowhere near the weight limit so I guess we could use the higher ratio.
Have asked for the etis info
Thanks

Just a follow up.
As it is confirmed that my diff has the 4.?? ratio rather than the 3.74 I rang George at Halifax transaxles as per your recommendations. He has very informative. The recommendation is that the 3.74 will be ok for my camper ( we are nowhere near the max load).
George said we should get the same revs at 10 mph faster so I guess we will be at 2,400 at 70 so a bit less fussy and hopefully better MPG. I did a fuel check over the last 500 miles ( mainly Mway and 25% rural) and we did 29mpg.
We are high roof so I expect that will make a difference.
George quoted a good price, he would come over to Burnley and do it on site, he suggested new bearings as we have 90k on the clock. I think we will go for it.

Thanks again for the advice
