Rattling noise from engine

Postby Grovesy » Sat Apr 19, 2014 8:34 pm

Yesterday I made a trip that would usually take an hour, but got stuck in traffic and it took me 3 hours. Parked up for around 4-5 hours to then drive back (which took an hour).

On the way home I noticed a rattling noise from the engine, it was after every time I revved or as I was changing gear I would hear this rattling kind of noise for a split second until the revs dropped back down again. It's not coming from
Gearbox it's definitely engine as it does it sitting on the spot when I rev the engine with clutch in or out. It doesn't make the noise on idle though, only when I rev the engine.

Checked the oil today and it's way over maximum (topped it up a couple of weeks ago as it was on minimum, and was fine once id topped it up) so I'm not quite sure what's going on to be honest.

Would too much oil cause the rattling noise? It's an 02 plate swb transit

drain the oil to the proper level, regardless of whether it is the cause of the rattle!

Iv ordered the parts from euro car parts, going to pick them up tomorrow and give it an oil and filter change.

Do you think it could have done much damage if there was too much oil in there?
