No ignition mk6

Postby mrbus » Sun Jul 20, 2014 6:28 pm

My starter motor seems to all of a sudden go stiff. Fought my battery was at fault maybe as I have a tyre machine permanently connected to it.
Decided to get my jump pack & connect to the pins under the bonnet & no change.
Then went under the seat to connect straight to the battery. Turned the key no change. Starter turned really slow & now I get no ignition whatsoever.
Did some research & the starter fuse seems ok. Not checked it physically but went back to jump off the pins under the bonnet & still no ignition :-/

Theres a big fuse inside the battery box I guess you know where it is so check it for continuity

Been told about that & was told if I go to jump it from under bonnet that would bypass that? Is that right?

Ok so did the earth lead & gained power. Still acting like it has a flat battery & fuse is fine :-/
I assume it's just the 1 70amp blade fuse?

I don't understand how the fuse is fine but only works when I use the jump lead from earth to engine eye :-/

The earth lead from battery to van floor incorporates and inline fuse, sounds like it has failed, possibly because your starter is dead

Take the starter off and lubricate the pinion, make sure it spins ok and slides free (ish) on the splines. I've just done two starter motors giving exact same symptoms. Both just needed stripping / cleaning and putting back on. started first push of the button then.

make sure there is no swarf in the starter, could indicate a failed dmf

Finally managed to get a new battery earth lead. Part numbers slightly different but they do the same job. I'm back to the clicking I had in the 1st place. I run a jump lead from battery earth to starter earth & no difference & the same from the live terminals & it didn't even click to try start. :-/

I would remove the starter and bench test it
