Mk6 2.4 won't start

Built up an engine a mate got cheap. Timed it up with the marks found online. Dots on sprockets to the top and drill bits at 6 o clock, pump marker lined up and pinned and crank pinned with the torx in the front of the crank around 11 o'clock. Because the engine is an unknown quantity I don't to stick it on to find its goosed. Compression sounds good and I can get it turn over quickly on the deck but can't get it to fire off easy start. Any ideas? Massively stuck so any ideas would be good.

Is fuel pump your original or replacement

If it's a replacement, then it will required coding to vehicle before engine will start.
