catastrophe, why cant I get anyone to help.

Postby highviss » Wed Aug 27, 2014 10:24 am

Hi no-one has been able to help me with this and im getting depressed now, I cant face life without my tranny or my van... lol,,,and I don't like people that laugh at their own jokes i have T280 mk6 FWD on a 52reg that has chewed its box up, i have found a replacement from a 51 reg 2ltr, replacement box number is 1c1r-7f096 the box that came out 1c1r-7002bh, i have got the box bolted to the engine and a new clutch in, had to swap the chassis mount over as that was different on the now fitted older gearbox that replaced the chewed up one, the problem is i can not get the drive shafts to go all the way in, the tolerances are good apart from the gearbox seal on the drive shaft that is .5mm smaller and that is what seems to be stopping the shafts going home, can any one help on this,? do force it home with a hammer on wood, ? was the older mK6 fitted with a different drive shaft ? seal ??

The seals should just be a snug fit, I've never seen any that had to be forced on.
You could either remove 1 and see if the shaft fits fully, then how
Hope that there is a correct size seal to fit, or you could get the same sized shafts/infer cv(depending on the setup) maybe off the same van that the gearbox came off? And fit that.

Can not look at the old box to compare to two seals.
Maybe the older vans had smaller drive shafts.

Think I will have to post in HIVISS  There are two different drive shaft sizes either change the box or get shafts to suit the new box SIMPLES.

If he changes the drive shafts. Would he have to change the hubs too.

If you've still got the old box, couldn't you just swap the diff?

Wish I had seen the post sooner !!, would the difference be the length that the spline is machined into the drive shaft and thats stopping it from traveling that extra 20mm home ? I have a lathe to hand,...... :?
this was suppose to be a cheap fix.... that will teach me.

Different splines you will have to get shafts. Can you not get the shafts where you got the box.You can just change the ends that go into the box.

Im going to get hold of the guy I got the box from and see if he still has the shafts, so if i understand you, and the guy no longer has the shafts, I can get hold of the correct first part of the shaft, then brake down at the knuckle my shaft followed by a rebuild to suit,??? then I wont be shafted anymore

As before 2 types 26 tooth & 36 tooth.

If guy doesn't have the driveshafts, not a big problem.

On your original N/S driveshaft. Replace inner CV joint with the correct one for replacement gearbox.
Same goes for your original O/S shaft - replace intermediate shaft for one to fit replacement gearbox.
