Electrical Gremlins ?

Postby chasper » Sun Oct 19, 2014 2:07 pm

Hi, my Transit Mk 7 2.2 (2007) has started behaving strangely. With no key in the ignition there is a sort of crackly noise the central computer screen lights up for a couple of seconds and the four dials speedo, tacho, oil temp and fuel level move anti clockwise, the light goes off after about two seconds, then about five seconds later it goes through the same sequence. Everything works fine on start up. Any pointers? Thanks for any help.

Its on a Chausson Flash 02 motorhome it has 3 batteries , 1 base vehicle and 2 leisure batteries. There is also a 130W solar panel. I suppose you are probably right about the battery which is under the drivers seat, it must be the original. Thanks.

Definately worth getting it drop tested, although touch wood, my 2008 Chausson is still on its original battery as well, at 65k
Where are you leisure batteries located? Mine only has 1, which is in a box in the floor in the garage

Is that the standard setup, or have you changed it?

No it originally had a 100A battery, but i have fitted a 130w solar panel so i wanted more battery capacity. It works well.

Just an update, I have changed the vehicle battery, but the problem still remains! ie, after a journey about 5 minutes after stopping the engine there is a crackley grinding sort of sound from the speedo area, the information panel lights up for a couple of seconds and the 4 clocks move anti clockwise for a couple of seconds, then it stops and about 2 seconds later it goes through then same cycle the tripometer resets to zero as well. After about 20 minutes it stops doing it and everything is normal. :?

The 2010 model year had a software problem which caused the trip to reset itself at key off.
I think maybe your clocks are faulty.

Would it be a big job to try some other clocks? I'm in North Devon by the way. :)
