Difference between 2.2 130hp and 85hp

Postby thebeak » Wed Oct 22, 2014 1:02 pm

Hi, I hope someone can help with this, i have a 56 plate 2.2 130 tdci transit that has sadly had a rod go through the side so i need to put a new block in!
My question is this.......Can i use any 2.2 transit short engine (say from a 85 ps vehicle) or is there a difference between this and the 130hp unit i have?
thanks in advance

Is that because spray angles of injectors are diferent on the higher powered ones :?:

The Ford Parts system ( Microcat ) lists only 2 part numbers for replacement 2.2 engines, one for new & one for remanufactured ,
Its the same part numbers for all 2.2 ( including european DPF equipped ones) so I'd assume that Ford now have only one piston type on new / exchange engines these days or that their system is wrong ( not unheard of ) ! this info is why i have always said "same lump"

I typed in a few random reg numbers this eve from vans on ebay, from different years & engine powers & Microcat still returns the same info

Karl, You must have seen more openend up 2.2's than many of us, what years of vans have You seen these piston differences on ?

Heres a screen dump from Microcat - -Image

From a 130 - ( shows new as well as reman engine part number - Image

I've read many posts regarding differences, and this is the very first one that has any facts. Other than hearsay no one knew the differences. I had read somewhere that the lower powered units didn't have the cooling oil spray on the piston underside, unlike the higher power. But again it's just hearsay.

Part number 117498 "piston nozzle cooling", shows up for all the different 2.2's also.. 90ps 2.4's Mk6's for sure have no piston cooling nozzles, that may be where that came from :)

Cant get the wholescreen dump to show , but its the 6K858 item marked in green in this pic -

Ford will of course, only supply the updated units, as regards full engines
