Interim service

Postby paulplom » Thu Oct 23, 2014 5:56 am

I'm going to do an extra oil change on my van every 6 months along with the official yearly service. I do on average 12,000 miles a year of mixed driving so this would equate to an oil change every 6,000 miles. A garage will be doing the annual service and I'll be doing the extra oil change.
What is your personal preference of brand and type of oil? And is a genuine filter necessary?
Any links would be appreciated.

Why not ask the garage that is doing the 12,000 service to supply you an additional filter and some oil?

Any Oem quality filter will do, fram, Mann, or Ford, as long as it is branded, and not a 50p ebay special
The same goes for the oil, which should be 5W-30 fully Synthetic

Thanks ake
I haven't had the van long and it was serviced when I got it. My local independent will be servicing it next year and I would like to have an oil change before then.

Get genuine filters off ebay ,keep an eye out and they pop up regular reasonably cheap.

Wait for the Halfords oil to be on offer and stock up.

Ive put 120 000 on mine using this method and touch wood no probs yet.I do mine every 10 000 ,about 4 times a year.
