Reverse parking sensors

Postby mikeandeileen » Wed Oct 29, 2014 8:06 pm

So, my reverse parking sensor started being a little intermittent and random, beeped occasionally as I backed up to something, but now there is nothing at all. I am not getting a long warning beep when I turn the ignition on. It is a factory fit, built into the rear step, on a 2007 T260 mwb, med roof van. Any suggestions ass to the source of the problem gratefully accepted. I took it into the local auto electrician, but he had no idea... Looking like main dealer next...

Thanks,

Mike.

Do they need cleaning? Maybe pop them out and see if there's a build up of dirt in them

Select reverse with ignition on but engine not running and put your ear close to each sensor and they will give a audible clicking if they are working

Are they genuine Ford, or aftermarket?

Ibanez, They seem clean.

Brains, Thanks for that tip, I will try it today.

Ake, They are genuine Ford, factory fit when I specced the van. I've had it from new.

If one had failed, would the others still work, or does it point to a control unit?

Thanks to all, any more suggestions welcome.

OK, so I put it in reverse, with the ignition on, put my ear next to the sensor, and can hear a very rapid clicking. So where do I go from here?

The sensors are all clean, it is a genuine Ford factory fit, from new, and there are no obvious broken wires...

Anybody with a suggestion?

Thanks,

Mike.

If every sensor was clicking then they are all ok so maybe the beeper is faulty

Further update: Had it in to the main dealer today, they say the two nearside sensors are not working, due to a corroded multi-pin connector... They say it will need two nearside sensors and a full wiring loom! Cost £269.00. Is this a DIY job, anyone know what route the loom takes and is it specialised wiring, or could the corroded plug be by-passed with crimped or soldered connectors?

Thanks,

Mike.

If it's only the loom then I'd do it myself. Soldering and heat shrink should do it or waterproof connectors.
