Ford Transit MK6 2.4 dura torq

Postby transitclimber » Thu Oct 30, 2014 3:11 pm

Hi all,

Problem with my transit, have never looked at engine before so got a Haynes manual, was told by a friend that it could be something to do with rocker arms coming loose, so i followed Haynes manual and striped engine to rockers, to find two bolt snapped and the carrier where they bolt in has snapped chunks off, also the timing chain tensioner had broke and chain had a few links missing which i found in the sump (after removal), so ordered 2nd hand head and chain with gasket and seal etc,,, as waiting for delivery i though id strip to gasket and replace as never been before, (117000 on clock), with cylinder head off? due to what happened for it to all go wrong, would there be anything wrong with the vales? if so how would i go about checking them? or replacing them?
Many thanks

make sure head and carrier are a mathched pair, they have lazer etch numbers on the side of them and should be the same..also keep your head gasket until you get a new one as there are 3 different thickness of them denote by 3,2,1 holes or tabs,...you need to use new bolts all round as they are strech bolts and are liable to snap if used again, this includes the chain tentioner and guide bolts especialy, make sure you get correct tentioner ,as this was proberly your original problem,it has let go and chain has jumped a couple of teeth,do not get the tentioner with the metal spring clip on the side of it..dont ever skimp on oil changes as these ...tentioner are hydraulic tentioned the spring is just for start up until oil gets round
