dashboard lights and pics

Postby Del Elliott » Fri Nov 21, 2014 1:59 pm

Sorry if this has previously been covered .Im new to forum and no great mechanic so please if answer keep it as simple as possible.
Occasionally my MK6 transit has offered no lights on dashboard when turn key. If turn key back then wait the lights come back and it starts.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong

Thanks

A bit more info on the van would be good, but I would suspect the electrical part of the ignition switch

1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!)

2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered

My guess would be ignition switch iv seen a couple of mk7s woth the problem if it dose it again try wiggling the key rather than turn it off and on again if it comes to life is change the switch
just follow the onscreen instructions and it's fairly idiot proof...trouble is, we keep producing better idiots

Mk7 330 2.4 ignition switch problem ?

Postby Hairy65 » Sat Nov 22, 2014 6:32 pm

I've got a new ignition barrel in today as it was suffering from excessive play, the contact in the barrel is bad requiring the key to be wobbled as above in previous comment,is it likely to be the electrical part of the switch that's to blame? Was all fine a week ago,now it's a lottery. Thanks in advance, oh another one is a Ford part a better one ?

The ford ignition switch is around £15, not worth the gamble of a cheaper one

Happened again nothing on dashboard lights jiggled key but nothing.Went back to turn off and re turn and all came back and started. Any other ideas or just do ignition anyway. Is it easy to replace barrel and presumably need different key after
Thanks

I don't think its the barrel you need to do, but the switch on the back of it.
