fuel tank return line

Postby eaglesalz » Sat Nov 22, 2014 1:29 pm

Hello can anyone tell me where the return line is. Is it from the fuel filter and if so which one is it. I am looking to blow this out just to make sure. I have a problem with the fuel filter being only half full. Filter changed approx 1500 miles back with a Mann filter. Thanks
Van is a transit T280 2.4 duratorq 125ps with approx. 40,000 miles.

Fit a ford filter.

There are probably four lines to the filter head.
Two on the left go to the engine and two on the right to the tank. The rear one will be smaller and is the return line.

mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Thanks for that, I thought Mann filters were good but was thinking of changing it, will get a ford one.

interesting as I was advised to fit, and thought the Mann filter was ok too, for the price I paid £16, that's not cheap I thought.
Just wondering if I should change my Mann filter to a ford one now. can someone advise if the Mann filter is no good and should it be changed.
What is the difference between the filters.
I still have issues with my van and maybe a ford filter will make a difference.
Did you find a difference on Ford filter if you have replaced it yet.
thanks

I looked yesterday before I read the reply from V8dave and they did not have any instock, so luckily I will get a ford one and try this. I thought Mann was standard on all the heavy trucks etc and are good quality but have read something about the filtration and someone suggested 10 micron filtration. I will get and stick with the ford one I think.

Mann filters are a good quality branded filter, equivalent to a Ford one, no need to change it.

The normal advise on here has been to fit a genuine filter, particularly when there is air reported in the filter.

There appear to have been lower priced filters around that don't have such good seals as the genuine ford item.

I'm sure Ake has better first hand knowledge of this than me.

on the subject of the fuel filter, Air intake, lets say the genuine Ford filter has been fitted and replacement fuel filter housing.
Where are the other likely parts/places for air intake if fuel filter was part empty.
Would we say it was air intake that causes this issue.

I had hot starting problems until the little o-rings on the injector leak-off connections were replaced.

The point many people forget is that the fuel system runs at slightly below air pressure so air leaks in rather than fuel leaking out.

The actual filter mounting heads are known to leak with age.
