You will have to reinstall all the software you delete Also go into your C drive/ program files and check there is nothing left behind before installing again or C: program files (86) if you are running windows 7 64bit

Get the top 1, i recommend a small light laptop with a very good battery, dual core or higher hdd is OK i use ssd, 2gb ram min 32 bit operating system will recognise 3gb ram i think.

Xp no longer supported but still works great on my laptop, maybe keep it away from the net although mine has been connected so I've been OK.

On the motorcraft site they give laptop requirements etc.

My laptop is Sony VAIO sz series 13" 2gb ram 64gb ssd iirc.
Did say the bottom 1 but proper look and I'd get the top 1 but check that it'll run xp.
My experience is xp is easier to get ids running on but others have had it on 7.
I'm going to install v86 on my dell w7 now i think and I'll let you know how it goes :-)

thanks for your reply loot, might wait and see how you get on with "win 7" then,
one other i looked at,-
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171372024436? ... EBIDX%3AIT

both of the "win 7" are pretty nearby (20mins drive) so i can pick up quick/easy.

While I'm thinking about it, i remember on w7 after a while of use i was getting database missing :-(
So I'll have to see how this 1 goes for now.
It may have been my laptop at the time or maybe an older patch? Maybe even the dodgy xprog that was doing it's rounds?
But in any case just look for a laptop that is capable of running either xp or 7 and you'll be good to go :-)
