TDCi delphi diesel pump numbers

Postby Llewelyn » Sat Dec 20, 2014 10:21 am

poking around on eBay I came across a few low mileage (or claimed low mileage, anyway) s/h diesel pumps.

1) Any point in fitting a s/h pump (if mine proves to be dud, as it may well) or should I bite the bullet and get a new one?

2) both on s/h and new ones I see different part numbers:

R9044Z034A (from a Jag X-type 2.0 TDCi)
R9044Z130A (new pump which claims to fit the mondeo, transit and jag)
R9044Z035A (from a 2004 mondeo 2.0)
R9044Z034A (from a 2003 mondeo)
R9044Z090A (doesn't say what it was from)
R9044Z033A (ditto)

Is there any functional difference? Anecdotal evidence from one chap suggests that a mondeo pump on a transit didn't work well, but then again, no way to tell if that was a good pump - so I tend to discount that.

Drained a bit of fuel from the fuel filter drain thingy at the bottom, and I can't see any sign of metallic or other crud in it (or water, for that matter). Dunno if this is a good sign or not. If the pump were making swarf and if as is said it gets all through the fuel system I'd expect to see some sign of it in fuel drained from the filter, unless I suppose it all sticks in the filter. The filter although not ford branded does seem to be the right kind with 2 micron (?) filtering.

Now, of course, it won't start, but it looks like I will need a hand priming pump at some point anyway, so have ordered one. I don't actually need the vehicle right now, so not the end of the world :)

what codes did you get,did you fill filter,,is battery fully charged,,take left rear pipe of filter, put in large pop bottle, block other end ,crank over should purge the air, keep revs high if it starts ,if a new pumpm is fitted make sure system is flushed out,

Well got it started again. There's a removable top to the filter head (which I may regret undoing but it looks like it sealed again fine), filled the filter with clean diesel, put the top back, cranked it over and kept revs up as you say and it's back to normal.

I've got a proper priming pump kit ordered, will no doubt come in handy some day anyhow. Meanwhile, I found a kinked vacuum pipe while poking around under the bonnet - I suspect that might've been affecting the turbo setting, since it seems to take off better than before but it still goes onto limp mode if I put me clog down too hard. Didn't really expect that to make any difference though :)

Naturally there's no way of seeing the number on the original pump without dismantling half the vehicle. I did manage to see that it has a blue fuel temperature sensor connector - on one site they list pumps with blue or green, which would seem to indicate a difference of some sort.

Yes there are 2 one with blue fuel temp sensor the other with green.

Difference is wiring & terminal type on pump, one with GOLD terminals the other has TINNED ones.

One supercede the other - don't use pump wiring with tinned connectors on a pump with gold terminals & vice versa :!:

Have ordered one the same colour as mine, so should be OK from that point of view. Found a reconditioner who offers 12 month/12k mile warranty, which is probably the same as you'd get on a new one. Mind, if it did only last 12k miles I'd be a bit miffed :)
