Re: Idiots guide to IDS

Postby mike10 » Sun Apr 23, 2017 4:26 pm

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I can't get my IDS to connect to my van.

I've installed IDS v86.04 on my laptop, following the instructions in this thread, and all seems to be working fine.
I have attached it to my newly purchased VCM2 clone and it can see that and talk to it.
If I plug the VCM into the OBD port on its own it powers up (tested for voltage at the plug, and fuse 72, they're ok), so that seems fine.

When I connect it all to the van as it should be it cannot see the PCM.
If I try and enter the details manually it says the information is invalid.

I've had a look at the configuration files and there doesn't seem to be one for my PCM.
I tried downloading it from here (https://www.fordtechservice.dealerconne ... roduct=IDS), but it says it is not found.

Codes on the PCM are as follows; (I think the first one is the key one, yes?)
AC11-12A650-BA
9HBA
DCU-201
0E142 0185A
14462170602/ECU
S/N Y5E201APLDDT

And just to double-check.... the PCM is the silver box on the nearside front wing next to the coolant tank, yes?

Does anyone have a link to the file, or a copy they can let me have?
Or have I been doing something silly and it's not that at all?

Van is a 2010 2.2 TDCi 115ps 350M FWD - (EF10AUE if you need to look it up on ETIS)

Thanks for any help.
Mike.

Feet ids turned on and running, connect vcm usb, did you get a prompt to update the vcm? Do it. In ids you should see green arrows top right and red vcm bottom right.

Plug it into the van obd and ignition to position 2 with lights on dash, ids should id, go to toolbox, start new session, all other and ids should then read the van pcm and tell you it is a tdci etc.

Didn't get a prompt to update, but it said something about 'initializing for first use' (or words to that effect) when I first connected it if I remember correctly.
Had the green arrows and the red VCM symbol. It was showing as connected on the VCM status screen.

loot wrote:Plug it into the van obd and ignition to position 2 with lights on dash, ids should id, go to toolbox, start new session, all other and ids should then read the van pcm and tell you it is a tdci etc.

That's where I was going wrong then. As I had a VCM2 I was selecting the VCM2 option, not 'all other'.

It has connected now and I have managed to erase the 4 keys that were in there and re-program the one I had and the new spare.
So that's today's aim achieved. Thanks very much for the help.

Got the information from the PCM and it says the "cal" is 9C11-12K532-JC so not at all what it said on the label.

Found half a dozen DTCs so I'll spend some time investigating those before clearing them and seeing if they come back I guess.

Thanks again.

Loot dear sir. (As your the most likely guru but im not fussy)
What am I missing it's been ages since doing this

Downloaded asbuilt
Saved it in C:prog... fls (x86)/ Ford..M..C.../cal... files
But still no go.
BCM's been "installed" via ids.
Can suck out old config from bcm but not reformat with asbuilt
Grrr
Any thoughts?

Just save the asbuilt to the desktop, turn off internet and then in config restore asbuilt and then locate the file you put on the desktop abcxyz.ab and it'll restore factory settings, will also reset config preferences tho.

Yea thought I remembered locating file before but can't get to that point again I'll go try again after some food and a ginger beer.
