Thanks knobby.

I`ve a lot to learn about the different systems, readers and software. For something that is supposed to be a `standard` obd is very hit and miss with compatability. It`s frustrating trying to make sense of it all.

Just had a quick goggle and as you say some sites not there anymore though did find this one http://m.obd2shop.co.uk/wholesale/vcm2- ... lcouk.html which the logo looks similar and the name of the person replying to comments is the same as one of the original sites that's if yr really keen to get a vcm over an elm?

It all depends on what limitations each option has.

I'd consider using Forscan, much less drama getting it working. Much cheaper and does 99% of what IDS can do too..!

Lord Knobrot

I have been pleased with forscan so far but haven`t tried anything particularly technical. I have a bluetooth elm but with no ms-can switch, do you know what functions the switch is needed for?

Would also be interested to know what forscan cant do that ids can as have been thinking about buying vcm instead of an elm with the switch.

I "think" the ms-can switch is just so you can access some of the can-bus system items on the Mk7's and later vehicles. I have the USB unit (with the switch) and Forscan asked me to switch from one to the other whilst I was fumbling around in it's gubbins.

Lord Knobrot[/quote]Had a similar forscan experience today, elm/switch thing arrived, download forscan, plug in laptop, connect van, up and and running! I don't get the elm switch though. First off it wanted switching before it would read all the modules, so I guess it was switched the wrong way (no labels on switch). Then later the laptop wouldn't successfully link with the switch either way. Then I tried the 'not sure' option for has the elm got a switch, and it seemed to sort itself out and link up again. Not done anything except watch live data, too much of a wuss / don't want to fk it up. More research needed. But absolutely delighted with the possibility of sorting through the usual fuel system foibles [WHITE SMILING FACE] prv & scv next up!!

Having a look at a wee focus van today couldn't do injector test with IDS,
Downloaded Forscan and ran that.
It's surprisingly simple connecting through the VCM11 but still couldn't do injector cut outs must be something in the vans system blocking it as tried it on my van at lunch time and it works fine.
Will have more of a play with it in the future.

Due to the range of vehicles I work on. I needed a device that was more universal...

I've gone & purchased a Delphi DS150. From Ebay & delivered within 48hr.

On 1st impression it's well built. Haven't tested it yet, but will be in the next few days.
Maybe an alternative device for Transit Connect & Transit mk6 owners instead of IDS :?: 8)
