So whos actually fitted a mk3 Mondy Wheel to a mk6 ??

Postby poormansporsche » Thu Feb 19, 2015 3:24 pm

alright peeps,

I know its a been discussed loads of times but I cant find the definative answer. Ive got a mk3 mondeo wheel sitting here. The chopping and joining to the boss of a mk6 wheel is not problem. The only issue I have is the mondy air bag as where the airbag light is now part of the mot i need the light to illuminate then go out !

A quote from one of Jays posts

"and steering wheel..mondeo leather jobbie bought for £10 with wrong air bag which i then sold the bag for £20 and bought the correct 2 pin bag for £5 air bag light comes on at first and goes out after a few seconds..
btw its not a straight forward fitment as u need either a old mk6 wheel or as i did bought one cheaply as u then cut it up to make it fit easy when looking at the wheel on the van"

So anyone actually fitted one can tell me what mondeo airbag is needed as all the ones ive seen have the 2 plugs on the back ?? And if you can use the 2 plug bag - which one of the 2 plugs do i plug my "single" plug into ???

My whole interior revamp is hanging on the answer :)

Cheers

Brett

Mondeo mk3 drivers airbags are 2 stage - hence the reason for 2 plugs

He didn't get the 2plug bag working, he got a single plug bag!

You can also fool the airbag light by installing a resistor of the approprate value. Some focus, cmax and mk7 transit airbags are compatible and will work fine.

Any idea what models / years may have come with the fabled single plug bag ? Really want the Mondy bag due to being half wood which I want to get carbon dipped !!

Slam a 5watt side light bulb in there, that'll turn the light off.

Yup, a 501 bulb fools the thing into thinking the bag works.

I have a Mondeo wheel in mine, with 2 plug bag fitted. I've just plugged into the 1st stage plug, and the light works fine.

FFS !! all fitted and when you tighten the bolts up to hold the airbag in place the horn sounds !!! ive checked everywhere and insulated behind the airbag and just cant work out why its doing it grrr. i think im going to chuck it in the bin. Im sure its something to do with the little earth lead from the frame to the air bag as the original transit wheel doesnt have one !!!
