Best way to wire in a dash cam?

Postby stephenuk1982 » Mon Mar 02, 2015 12:58 pm

Hi guys just a quick one where's the best place to wire in a dash cam so it comes on with the ignition? I have a 2002 2.0 mks fwd swb.

Bought this on Ebay, rested it in the little pocket thing on the top centre of the dash, then wired the dash cam to the bottom of the windscreen in the centre.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/39106030 ... 108&ff19=0
Some people prefer it infront of the steering wheel at the bottom of the screen so its from the "drivers point of view" but ive never found the middle a problem.

Having the multi-lighter thingy is awesome because I can also charge my phone and have the sat nav on whilst recording helping out the NSA with recording :D
Completed the Mongolia Charity Rally 2015 with a beautiful Mk6 LWB high roof Transit.
We loved it so much, we have just purchased a Mk7 LWB high roof Transit to do some staycationing!

Was thinking more along the lines of picking up an ignition feed so it powers on and off with the ignition. I did think of using the feed to the radio but not sure if it would be OK.

Mine is powered like the above, mainly because the cam is then still live when it's parked up, which could be a help if someone reverses into the front of the van or attempts to steal it.
They don't use loads of power, but you would need to pull the plug out if you're parking up for several days

Mine is a Roadhawk, which not only records the journey, but also the time, speed, and GPS, so you can replay it on your computer showing the journey in one minute segments from a 'Google Earth' point of view.
The resolution on mine isn't brilliant, but they now do an HD version which should enable number plate readings from further away

Yeah
Luckily I reclaim the VAT and expenses via the business :P

There are cheaper ones out there, but I don't know if they work the same way, or as well :)
