Hello,
I am a new member and I am wondering if any of you can help me with a problem on a Ford Transit.
The vehicle is;- 2007 Ford Transit 2.2ltr TDCi Diesel with about 90,000 miles on it.
It was a Cat D write off and has been nicely repaired body wise by ourselves as amateurs.
The engine was not started for about 12 months and when it was started there was a tapping noise coming from it.
We have changed the oil and filter plus the fuel filter.
There is no sign of debris in the oil although it was very dirty.
We have used an engine flush on it.
The oil light goes out as soon as the engine turns over and does not show on hot tick over.
The noise appears to come from the top end when a stethoscope is used on it.
If it were a petrol engine it would sound like a noisy tappet or faulty hydraulic lifter.
There is no visible smoke from the exhaust.
The engine seems to rev freely.
There are no fault codes present using FORScan.
I notice from one forum response that a faulty timing control solenoid can cause a noise, but I have no idea what the noise would sound like.
I have put a short video of it with the noise on youtube.

I would be grateful for and help in identifying the problem.
Thanks
Paul
