Mk7 remote key fob programming/pairing

Postby 2tall » Thu Mar 12, 2015 2:41 pm

Since the van came with just a single key I purchased a shiny new cheapo 433 Mhz remote key fob w/ 4D63 chip for my Mk7 Transit.

I managed to add the key in IDS (Body/Security/PATS Functions) but I haven't been able to figure out how the central locking remote is paired with the van?

Now the key works but the remote doesn't.

Search came up with different kinds of voodoo rituals for Mk6 and Transit Connect but nothing for Mk7.

I couldn't find any options in IDS for remote pairing. Is it hidden there somewhere or am I just too stupid to find it :?

Blue fob 3 button remote key is programmed in security options by adding ignition key, if you have done this and the key works the van then the fob battery is either flat or faulty i think.
If your original fob works the remote central locking then it has to be a faulty new remote fob.
If you only had a standard key you need to check that you actually have remote central locking ( no idea if mk7 came without remote locking lol)
Remote sensor is in roof lining above front interior light)
Fuse f74 for remote locking is in the bcm, behind glovebox, drop front fusebox down to reveal bcm.

So just adding the ignition key in IDS is enough to pair the remote with the van?

Uh oh, could it be that the cheap chinese key fob is not working after all :o I was kinda hoping that I missed something in IDS.

The original remote is working fine. The immobilizer recognizes the new key and it works as an ignition key, it's just the new 3 button remote that doesn't work.

Every time I've added a blue remote key in ids it has worked fully and with remote function.
I can only guess that your fob battery is flat from being stored (although mine can be left for a very long time and still work without going into the ignition to charge them)
Did yours still not work after using the key in the ignition and going for a run?
If your original 1 works and you've done the above with the new 1 then imo it's not looking good :-(
I see no reason for it not to work other than it being fooked.
Options are, send it back to china or split it and meter the battery to see if it has power etc and try to fix it.
How much did you pay for the fob? Can you be certain that it isn't 1 of these replacement shells? (Probably a silly question but hey)

I did split the fob to check that there actually was something inside there. Don't have a clue what the remote control board should be like but it looked good enough for me

Swapped in a new battery as well but no luck.

Bought it from here: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/FOR-FORD ... 77187.html

Oh well, maybe the remote chip is different than the original :?

Don't think that's a mk7 key, more like Mondeo, focus etc might work on a mk6 but I've never known it to work on a mk7:-(
You need this.

Now that would explain why the remote doesn't work, I was stupid enough to buy the wrong key :o

Well at least the immobilizer chip is good so I got a working spare key for now.

And if I want a working second remote I have to either buy a blue fob or a Mondeo.

Nope just get a transit blue remote if you want to be safe, if you click on the 1 above it'll take you to eBay, is 46 pounds tho which is a lot of money :-( maybe keep an eye out for a cheaper 1 or maybe have a look in the breakers? You can use new or second hand, just want a good 1 tho :-)
There may be other ones that work but I'm not certain which Ford have these blue fobs, if any i imagine 2007 on.

I'm pretty sure only Transits have blue fob.

Thanks for all the advice. I’ll start looking for a blue fob, then.

Finally went to the breakers this morning and came back with this:

After fiddling a while with IDS I now got three working key fobs, absolutely no problems with pairing the fobs. Thank you Sir Loot for the advice 8)

Out of curiosity: is there a 3 volt lithium battery inside these original key fobs or is it something different?

OK, good to know. Does anybody know what voltage is used when the fobs are charged in the steering lock?

Any chance one of you would have instructions on how to add the key in IDS (body/Security/PATS Functions)? as I have the faintest idea of what IDS means? Just got my first transit (MK7) 4 days ago and only 1 blue key + 1 black (pictured) which I'm not sure what's for, since there's no keyholes on any door. Any special tools required, etc? Thanks.

Ids is the Ford diagnostic interface, you need that or any other quality machine to program keys on the mk7, if you don't have it then you can't program keys :-( other option is a decent auto locksmith or Ford.
