speedo issue

Postby maccavvy » Mon Jun 22, 2015 5:34 pm

Seem to have an issue with my speedo.
I take it its electronic.. long gone the days of speedo cables.
wheres the sender and if it is the clocks is it a simple swap over from 2nd hand ones.
what about the mileage etc etc?
in case of a dodgy wire which colour should I be testing.

thought id stack up on info before I tackle it .

Speed signal is gained from abs sensors and fed to speedo using canbus circuit from ecus, there is no sender as such

If speedo is misbehaving, but everything else is ok, then it's most likely a cluster fault.

Mileage can be corrected using Ford ids. But you can only increase it, not decrease it

is there one cable as such sending a signal to cluster.

is mileage stored in the clocks if I don't have access to ids. will they fit and work just fitting them

No, not just one wire, it's a pair of wires, but they send signals for rev counter, gauges, lights etc etc

Mileage is stored in clocks, so new clocks will show different mileage

Just curious with a Mk7 cluster...I know we can only "increase" the mileage via IDS, but what say we set it to a mile short of the maximum for the speedo, say 999,999 miles ....if we drive it for a mile, will it then tick over to zero??

It's been tried, and it just stays at 999,999.9 and won't click round!

Did one van have digital mileage read out and the other have analogue mileage?
