Gearbox issues part2

Postby pp5858 » Fri Jun 26, 2015 10:10 am

Hi,

I have had these issues and still strugling with it.
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=151252

Now with couple of videos for that how it shows.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__QUX6RPitE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-Ryitkf1e4

So recap:
2007 Transit 300M that has been driven over 300 thousand km. It has 2.2 63kw TDCi engine and it is fwd.

Changed: Whole stick upper plastic mechanism
Fixed: Opened and lubricated selector unit. It was already moving well and is moving now well also
Changed: mk6 bearing (6 152 850) and sealing to selector unit (also some other part was changed there in the selector, some plasting, shop did that)
so this is done: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=111349
Changed: cables
Fixed: Cables adjusted, I did the 3mm x 65mm tools and adjusted them

not sure what this means, but this is not checked "You could also check that the pinch bolt on top of the selector is fully tightened"
Nothing has been done for the gearbox itself. Nothing has been done to DMF or clutch.

So from the videos this is how it behaves. This is kind of forsibly done for the video, but it happends normally while driving.
1:st 2:nd and R will drop off by itself. 1:st and 2:nd is bit hard to get on sometimes. Sometimes they seem to be on e.g 1:st but when you release cluth comes really loud bang and it drops off.

It is driveable but anoying. While gears are on everything works well and there is no extra noice or behaviour, only when putting gears on.
Any good suggestions to fix this good.

Is it possible that the selector could be loose and worn out and be to flexible?

I haven't tried any other transits, but in mine, I can change all the gears from under the hood with my hands putting the gears to 1,2,3,4 and so.

Or is it possible that engine support rubbers could be so loose or something as in bumby (gravel) roads e.g. 1:st or 2:nd can drop out just by driving on bumps?

Had to reverse with trailer an long distance slipping the clutch and in the end turns out that even after that the clutch doesn't slip in normal driving so imho clutch could be ruled out of the broken components.

Go and select 2nd gear at the gearbox manually and make sure it is fully in, if you can't get it fully then adjust the cable so it has full movement to get 2nd gear.
Once you are happy with that get in the van and try your best to get it to pop out of gear.
You need to park it on a straight so you can move off in that gear.
Don't burn the clutch out but give it a couple of hard releases to stall the engine, then slowly move away to maybe 5mph then dip the clutch with 2000rpm and bring up the clutch quickly.
Repeat these steps to see if you can recreate the fault.

The above should bypass the gear lever and cables and if the fault is still there then you need to get the gearbox fixed or replaced.
