Bonnet catch MK7

Postby panelvan08 » Sat Oct 03, 2015 7:13 pm

Hi,

I'm unable to close my bonnet, I've had a search on this forum and I've found plenty of evidence of people struggling to open, but can't see any where its proving tricky to close! Is it a case of adjustment or soaking with oil to free it up? I've already soaked in oil so hopefully working the lock mech back and forth it should get it working again?

The locks only cause problems as people don't lubricate them when the vehicle is serviced, so they seize up. Then again I don't see people lubricating the door hinges these day either when the vehicle are being serviced

Yeah! I whipped it out to give it some attention over night and was surprised by how corroded it was! If I can't get it working tonight whilst I'm watching TV il treat it to a new one!

The lock works correctly, its the latch mechanism which has failed, does any one know if this varies between a mk6 and mk7 or transit connect? I can see the lock barrels and mounts are different but the latch mech look exactly the same for all, just they're advertised separately? Only reason I ask is theres a Ford boxed one for a mk 6 on eBay I like the look of!

Thanks, I bought the one advertised as mk6 and it was indeed identical. Replaced and sprayed loads of grease inside and out as it was bone dry, if the original was fitted the same its not surprising it rusted solid!
