Hand brake help needed

Postby bazw » Sun Oct 04, 2015 3:54 pm

Just been out to adjust the handbrake as last thing before MOT on my MK 7 and noticed the off side cable is out a long way compared to the near side.

Could this be the internal adjuster not set up right or will it be more likely the cable stretching before snapping ?

An idea of the normal length of the cable would be a great help in sorting this out before I spend pennies if any one knows.

Check the calipers, the lever the cable attaches to, they stick and don't fully return, so the cable seems long

Well after the rain I may get to work on it tomorrow.

IIRC the arms were moving free last time I checked but will test them to be sure, hopefully the adjustment is out and fiddling with it will take up some slack and even the cables out. I will report back tomorrow.

Well the cable seems ok. I adjusted the coupler so there was some free play and worked the arm on the calliper with mole grips so hopefully the internal adjuster worked and reset the coupler. Seems ok only the test will tell.
