Mk7 upgraded injector clamp pictures

Postby loot » Sun Oct 04, 2015 8:06 pm

Well the new clamps have a bit more meat on them to prevent the forks flexing.....

Bolts look near as damn it the same, i didn't use a vernier to measure tho.

Tbh it's nothing to write home about, not sure I'd be bothered to run out and upgrade

Specsavers are doing free eye tests Al 8)

If you look at the shiny 1 you'll see the top bits of the wings slope thicker :-) the thickest part is the same so i think it is just the wings that are reinforced, probably to stop flex and letting the bolt undo, stupid thing is that when you tighten them up they have nothing to stop against so you can just keep tightening them til they snap or push down the cover, stupid idea completely :?

I'd have had a threaded shaft that screws into the cradle which has a thicker shaft and a nut on top to push the clamp onto til it stops and can be tightened up.

I can still tighten up the bolts relatively easy despite doing the torque and 180 degrees

think the bolts would be more likely to break first before stressing the clamps too much. using old bolts would be a cert to snap if slightly overtightened.

There's no real reason that they couldn't have used a bigger bolt or better arrangement that i can see :-(

I reused my old bolts and did them up by feel and I'm pretty sure i did them up till they were tighter and they clicked if you know what i mean (like wheel nuts)
Was reassuring knowing that they felt too tight to undo, these new ones can be turned smoothly :-( I'll recheck them next week and do it manually if need be 8)

is this what happens with them then?? they can loosen themselves?? so we have the mk6 tdci with probably the best arrangement of injector fixing ive seen on all diesel vans, but sh*t injectors, then we have the mk7 with the worst arrangement ever but fairly good injectors! cant f*** win

Yes, now they've got rid of those 2 and are using siemens injectors with different clamps (same bolt arrangement from what i have seen)

The Siemens injectors don't need correction factors loading which sounds good in theory but the solenoid especially doesn't look as substantial as the denso ones.

Hands are up in the air

I thought the new clamps had a plastic coated part on the forks?
