Speed Limiter

Postby Peregrine » Tue Nov 24, 2015 8:52 am

Morning all,

My Mk7 SWB 85 T260 has a speed limiter at 70mph. I assume that this is part of the software mapping in the ECU. Could anyone please recommend someone who could remove this limiter for me? Or is this something I could do myself with the correct software and OBD interface?

There are a variety of different types of limiters, from a simple type selected in the service menu, to one that is installed into the map.

Where in the country are you? That would help us find someone to help. Fords software IDS is probably the best bet for switching it off.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I have read a bit about the IDS tool/software and if it's not ridiculously expensive I would consider investing in it, especially if it could help with things like this.

I already have an OBD code reader which I've used on the Jag. No doubt this would work on the van too but I imagine that the IDS goes a whole lot further than just reading codes and resetting the MIL.

So...where can I get a decent IDS setup along with instructions etc? I'm in West Sussex, by the way.

I believe http://vantuner.co.uk/ can remove it for you. I have the same issue and emailed them . when I find the time I am having it done, if I can remember it was going to be about £100 for my mk7 2.2115/350

Comparing prices, it looks like it might be worth my while to buy a VCM2 setup and do it myself.

Will this one do the job, and is this the right software for my van?

i have succeeded removing speed limiter on Ford Transit by clone vcm2 here:

but i was told that VXDIAG ford is also okay, with the same software as this vcm2. it's cheaper

I finally decided that it would be best to let a professional deal with this, so yesterday I paid a visit to Vantuner (Martyn) who removed the speed limiter and remapped the van to around 120PS at the same time. To say the van is better would be a gross understatement; it's totally transformed, smoother and a lot more powerful right the way through the rev range.

Martyn also gave me a lot of free advice, replaced the pressure relief valve, deleted the EGR, and reprogrammed the central locking so that the bloody thing no longer behaves like a Venus Fly Trap when you accidentally leave your keys inside :-)

He's also given me a list of other things I need to look at - a sloppy engine mounting somewhere, a top end oil leak (injector seals), and a bit of chafing on the heater hoses.

I can't recommend Martyn's services highly enough, he's a nice chap and really knows his stuff.

I recently bought my van, didnt know it was limited until I got on the motorway to come home, I was looking at my options to get it removed but first thanks to this forum I looked on etis and noticed some outstanding recalls on it, booked it in to get them done, when I got it back the speed limiter was gone, bonus :D
