MK7 2.2 INJECTOR BOLT HOLE STRIPPED

Postby reafer » Tue Feb 09, 2016 8:07 pm

OK Guys been some time what with waiting for the body shop to finish the jigging, Xmas and work not relay had time to do anything on the van.
so when had the time today jumped at it....

ok so new injector installed with new clamps and bolts tightened to 6NM
all programmed in, did pump learn no problem, running fine.
had to nip out so left it for a few hours......

got back start the beast up to do the pilot learn, ran for about 30 seconds then bam, started to sound like a bag o crap, turned it off and opened the bonnet to see the injectors in 3 and 4 popped out....
the bolt was still in the quickly pulled it out thinking it had snapped but know its stripped the threads by the looks of things.
gutted going from bad to worse.......

HELP!!!!!

tried looking at pics on the net, too see if i need a new head or can the hole part be brought separately?

dose any one know? and has this happen before too any one?
as iv only found posts on them snapping

thanks

There is thread inserts out there which are solid with an inner thread and an outer so much better than helicoils. f*** knows why ford use small diameter bolts on injectors

Yep, helicoils, Twinserts, etc..as Altransit mentions, there are better ones out there. Yeah....what were Ford thinking putting those piddly little bolts in there..?? :? A decent mechanic/garage can probably do them for you if you aren't happy doing them yourself.

There are new type "revised" clamps and bolts available from Ford, a few of us have them. The bolts are essentially "single use" and should be replaced if the injectors have to come out for any reason. Also replace the copper sealing washers while you're in there...be sure to clean and inspect the washers seats inside the head too...the seats and the copper washers can cop a beating if the clamps have been loose.

Unfortunately it's not a super simple fix but all is not lost. If the clamp bolts have been loose for a while it can also beat the bolt thread to death, I check the torque on mine during each service, only takes a few mins and hopefully saves a lot of grief down the track.

Probably a wise choice :-) they look flimsy enough when they are original and as intended, why they didn't make them a bit thicker i don't know but apart from them coming loose you don't really hear much about them on here tbh

No need to have a distrust of Helicoils. If fitted correctly, then there will be no adverse issues. In fact, the thread will be stronger than the original.
