If change the oil and see if it happens again :-)
Not sure ids can fix a rattly engine tbh but you should give it a mechanical once over, maybe check the prv, check the egr if possible.
Injector clamps (although it usually gets noisy under load)

You need to pray for salvation my son or come to your senses and trade it in for a MK2 with a proper v6 petrol engine whilst there is still time.
Beware the ides of timing chains under pressure and tension.

Cmon bjt your an engineering type :P you need to fashion some kind of prv replacement device and bypass the scv with a manual button 8)

Bloody filter head could do with some silicone put on its seals too :?

I have my suspicions about the filter head
the indicator is was and always been before the green never moves
the green vans was red till I changed it yesterday and now that's in the green

Nah, i think you'd experience hard starting and problems all day if it was letting air in, but if not apart from over a long time i think it would just be ashit to start but then once started it would be fine.

I'm thinking more like stuck egr(not meant to open when cold) but it should give maf codes if it was stuck :?
Possibly injector problems (also expected all the time :? )
Could also be shitty crank sensor.
Shitty fuel.
Check your turbo rod is movable.
I think ids is your friend if you have no warning lights despite me saying it might not be needed.

I can only see a faulty egr giving your problems if it sticks open so imo I'd go the cheaper route and blank it first, you can make a blank out of a coke can to try if you want, just cut it the shape you want and stick it in there
Isn't a long term solution tho. :?

No idea son.

None of the above have caused my van to run like a bag of spanners for 1 mile, only slight hesitance and slightly chattery but otherwise ok.

I think you should try the cheap stuff to diagnose it tbh else it'll end up costing you 14 pekinese, 3 German Shepherds, 9 chihuauas, and a cat
+ the dreaded bum squeeze :-(

Any cheap reader should connect to your van :?

Did you turn the ignition lights on when you plugged the reader in?
