Restrictor removal

Postby James132 » Wed Feb 10, 2016 8:49 pm

Hello everyone,

I have a 2005 transit (ex royal mail) and its restricted to 70mph, i've had it for about a year and a half now and want the restrictor removed before the start of the race season. Those 8 hour trips could be shortened somewhat!

Is this something I can easily do myself? Or is it a take it to ford and pay through the roof price to have it plugged in a computer jobby?

Cheers.

Not real sure with your Mk6 but for Mk7 you'll need plugging into IDS to adjust or disable the speed limiter, I assume it's the same for both?? Maybe there's someone from this forum who is reasonably close to you....here's an IDS map courtesy of Loot:

Normally a nice beverage or a cup of tea and biccies is the going price. Loot usually requires some other sort of payment...which can't be mentioned in public.

Yes IDS required to remove speed limiter on a mk6

"Those 8 hour trips could be shortened" Yes if you want to take the risk of not getting caught speeding.
Speed limit for vans on dual carriageways is 60

Thanks for the info guys, the nearest person on that map is cambridge, about 2.5 hours from me unfortunately.

Never mind, it will have to stay limited to 70 as there's no chance i'm paying ford to do it.

I know you "want" to...but how often would you "need" to drive at 70mph (112-113kmh) or more.??

I would hazard a guess it's about personal choice :-)
I know I'd be gutted if mine was restricted to 70, not because i drive over it but because it is a shackles on me.

If he drives like a loon then maybe it is safer this way for other road users but still it's his right to drive dangerously since he has a van

I wouldn't know how to remove a mk6 limiter tbh tho :?:

70mph limiter on a UK van is a pain, and an inconvenience to your fellow Mway drivers who have to wait for you to creep past the van that's limited to 69.5mph, when a quick squirt up to 75 sees you past in seconds.

I agree, yes breaking the speed limit should be punishable by death  but let's face it, how many of us have got out of trouble by blipping passed it??

For me it can be idiots joining the motorway by barging onto it from the slip road, you then have ppl in the right lane coming up on you fast and you have to do 1 to get around it

Yes but also you don't drive too slowly passed a school as it's frowned upon

This hits the nail on the head for me, and is the reason why I want it removed.

I only use the van in winter for commuting to work (use the sv650 in the summer) which is all at 60 or less. But I do lots of miles traveling to and from race tracks, normally real late at night after the meeting has finished. Getting past people with there cruise control set to 69mph, it takes an age to get past, you have impatient people sitting behind you flashing their lights and then the moment the nose of your van edges in front of the car you are passing they decide they want to do 72mph

Just having the option to sit at 75/80 to make up a little time and get past slower traffic would be nice!

Mines 70 limited, I like it. The 18" wheel make sure you have a couple of extra mph on most other 70 limited motors.

But then I drive it like I stole it
