Will it do this then randomly start up later no problem? That typically it's similar to being flooded tho, won't start straight away so leaving it let's it dry up, but I've only known that on petrols

Did you say the solenoid is leaking or anything? Or was that just a guess based on the knocking?

It always starts after trying for a while. Today I used the primer pump in fuel filter and after a couple more attempts it started ( not sure if that was just coincidence) though very knocky and very rough, erratic idle. 60 secs of raised revs and it clears as always.

It is starting to have knocking sound all the time driving though even miles after its cleared.

Checked error codes again today and none present still.
This morning it started instantly, loud knocking but after idling it pulled off ok, no stall, no sudden extremely loud knock rough idle and lack of power for minute or so when pulling off like yesterday.
Had van pointing downhill overnight as seems to start better. It had been pointing uphill overnight before having yesterday's staring problem.

Metering solenoid I was questioning due to knocking and wondered if it could cause the air leak.

Getting frustrating now tbh. Wish I could fond the cause so I can get on and fix it.
I've got another trip today of over 1000 miles wondering everyone I stop if it's going to start again :-(

did you try this yet ? > Maybe to rule out or check you could try to wriggle the wires (to stop the short) and see if it returns to normal idle.
The wires from the solenoid are not all that long (about 6 inches from memory) and don't have all that much slack in them as they route around the back of the pump upwards to the connector

What are you using to read the codes? What makes you think there is a fault being logged? - management light staying lit briefly after start?

I can't think what else could cause the knocking noise apart from solenoid so checked codes as people say if it's going it will definitely have s code.

Using Fordiag to read codes and live data.

I'll give wires a wiggle later in services see if it does anything.

Any ideas what else could cause the knocking. It's the same knocking noise I mornings if you Rev the engine or try to pull off without letting it idle for about 5 minutes. Only it doesn't affect running once warmed up or at least doesn't appear to.

Had a listen under bonnet engine running again and the rattling/knocking noise is definitely come from around the pump, surely must be the solenoid.
Especially as it sounds just like my cold start issue.

Trying to find a solenoid now. Ford want £530 +vat or £130 just for repair kit.

Tpuk have vp44 solenoid for 129 but waiting to hear back if it's a Busch or cheap China part.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to buy from or which to buy?

Van won't start this morning at all. Just spinning like pump isn't not kicking in, no attempt at all to fire, just spinning dry.

Did 960 miles yesterday over 22 hours of driving and I feel it got louder through that.

Ok someone at vospers had wrong part number. I found part number went back to them and turned out was £163 all in.

Just need to figure out what all the gaskets and connectors are for now lol.

Any fitting suggestions or tips?

Sorry to hear that. So this is the replacement engine you bought that's gone?
If the cam carrier has cracked do you know what caused it?
Timing chain?

Thanks for offer on bits, I'll let you know if I think of anything.

Ok Yesterday I fitted a remanufactured turbo with manifold and actuator.

Also fitted a new Bosch fuel timing solenoid.
What a b*tch of a job that was. I managed to get myself 5" of wire to attach the new solenoid to which helped so I soldered them together and put heatshrink over.

Will get out and test drive it today but once air was out of the system she fired up and runs quieter and no smoke :-).

Right this morning exactly the same issue. It won't start. Cranking over fine, starts then stalls soon as you try to Rev. Then spins over like fuel pump has cut out.

Any ideas as its not timing solenoid.

I've got no fuel leaking out but seen a few threads saying the metering solenoid can cause the same issue.
Is this possible? No codes remember are present and once it runs it seems ok.
