Black smoke and turbo boost hesitates

Postby kylezx7r » Sun Apr 24, 2016 2:32 pm

2009 2.4 LWB 77k

Today I drove about 20 miles and all was fine. While I was at my destination the van was started and ticked over for about 10-15 mins.
Then I set off about an hour later to come home and straight away had a problem, the turbo boost hesitates it feels under powered and it's firing out a load of black smoke until the turbo eventually comes on boost then it pulls ok and the smoke clears

I had the EGR valve changed in November so shouldn't be that I don't think, or could it be the turbo or something else

Any help is hugely appreciated

Just been for another drive and still the same but I also noticed that if I Rev the engine when stood still it revs as if there is a misfire, then engine judder sand gives out a puff of black smoke.

Changed the air filter and fuel filter, engine runs exactly the same but now I have an engine management light on

Can anyone give any info on this?

You'll need to get the codes read by IDS....probably a stuck EGR but getting codes read will give and indication of what's going on...!

Exactly right sir, the EGR was knackered. It was just replaced in January so the garage I used replaced it yesterday again free of charge.

The garage I used was Durham diesel services and they were great. I would have expected to atleast pay for their time but they didn't charge me anything.

Smiling and fitting EGR valves doesn't usually happen in the same sentence..! One assumes a nice cuppa and biccies were consumed at the same time?? ...when I did mine some time back, I found it much easier to remove the manifold...cleaned out the manifold while I was in there too...Next time it goes south I might go the "black" type valve..!
