There's a few things that can cause it which need checking.
Injector copper washers.
Injector condition.
Prv/scv updates relating to fueling.(leak off test and correction factors check using ids.)
Egr.
Turbo and vacuum system.
Piston failing although i don't know if it is possible to have such a small crack that would cause this?
And other things like timing/tensioner condition, crank/cam sensor integrity, valve gear etc.
Also check map sensor is clean.
Scan with ids for fault codes that don't illuminate the warning lamp and live data.
Best i can think of off the top of my head at the mo.
Is tick over erratic at times? Does it ever stall? Is it easy or hard to start? Does it pull well? Etc
