HELP: Heater Fan Cuts Out After 1 Min. 30 Seconds

Postby rjwoodcock » Tue Jun 21, 2016 7:42 pm

Can anyone help me with this ?? Im going to Spain and my dog will cook unless I get this sorted. The heater fan when put on full lasts for 1 min. 30 secs. and then slowly stops.....it slows to a barely perceivable speed. If I then turn it off for a few mins. I can put it on again with the same result ! Any ideas ???

Thanks,
Richard

What model van have you got?? Pollen filter usually lives under bonnet and in the big black plastic cabin air inlet housing .

If it's a late Mk6, there is no pollen filter :)
The Mk7 if fitted, is in the black housing at the back of the engine bay 8)

I would guess that the fan motor is seizing up when hot :(

Sounds like a faulty heater resistor. Do a search on here or google it. It's a common problem on these van.

OK thanks for that info. I was just tinkering with it again: with engine running and fan on highest setting it cuts out at 1min. 30 secs. With engine off and fan on setting below highest it works just fine !!! Does this mean its the resistor ??

Thanks again Richard

The resistor is not even in circuit on the max setting, and if it was faulty, nothing would work on the lower settings at all.

My money is still on the fan motor itself

Fan motor by sounds of it, any resistor problems I've ever came across is lower speeds just dont work, I take it you've checked that there's nothing blocking the intake, maybe a rag or something while you've been working under the bonnet, definitely sounds like motor over heating and starting seize
