excessive smoke failed MOT

Postby rabbb » Wed Jun 22, 2016 11:58 am

Can anyone give me some advice on excessive smoke from the exhaust . My MK7 2.4 RWD failed it's MOT today and this was one of the reasons . What is the best way to cure this problem ?
How difficult is it to change a nearside ball joint as it failed on that as well.
Thanks

Take it for a run on the motorway and get the engine hot!

If it has been neglected for any length of time you'll want to change the oil and all filters, clean the map sensor and ideally the inlet manifold too.

Then some programming on ids to fine tune the fueling.

It goes without saying that you need to visually check for anything faulty like leaks in hoses and the turbo etc.

Ball joint can be an arse if you don't have the tools and experience imo:-(

I have had vans fail and then pass with a air filter change some fuel system cleaner with some good fuel and a thrashing down the motorway.
