Thanks for reply,
I had to take engine out a second time
because I had damaged crank sensor clamp
So put new clamp in to suit new sensor.
You say it would not run with bad sensor
But it does run (albeit with easy start under throttle and would keep running as long as needed)

Yes, but because it won't start on its own, or idle, I don't think crank sensor is working correctly, probably because it's too far from flywheel

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else may have any input,
Van starts with spray, does not idle and goes into limp
Could this possibly be crank sensor issue

Have you moved crank sensor closer to flywheel yet?

Ake,ake,
I have just seen your last reply
I am not disputing your answer,
In fact it seems reasonable
When I dragged engine/box out for third time or so
Put new c/s clamp in guided by new sensor as not to damage sensor,I am quite sure I can leave engine in now,and somehow push sensor further in,thanks very much, again
I presume the big gap means c/s coloration

I thought the sensor gap was self setting when engine was turned over , assuming sensor was fitted from new or am I talking BS.

Glad you got it fixed, nothing worse than a head scratcher, especially when you rely on your van for work.

Gearbox filler is on the front of the box about half way up, it's a big Allen key bolt.

I'm having a similar problem after doing a full engine rebuild after a cam lobe spun on the exhaust camshaft and smashed two rockers.
Mine only starts on easy start then runs perfect on its own, I had it on a diognostics and it come back with " cam and crank sensor not synced,
I re-checked the timing but that was spot on.
Checked all the wiring loom for continuity and checked all the plugs,Fit new crank sensor, new cam sensor, new fuel sensor but still the same.
Slowly losing the will to live lol

My problem turned out to be a bad connection on the glow plug rail.
