Spraying.

Postby Andrew1974 » Sun Aug 28, 2016 12:05 pm

Hi I've cleaned and prepared all of the underneath in preparation for spraying with an underbody spray.

1, which is a good underseal spray to use?
2, Can I spray it all over the underneath? For example the pan under the engine bay and the rear axle? Obviously I'm going to cover the exhaust, brakes etc.
3, I'm using aqua steel to treat some of the rust. Can I apply this to the brake fluid pipes after I've got all the crud off? Or is it best just to grease them?

Thanks for all if your help, I've previously restored a 1967 Commer but I'm learning with the transit.

1, Rubberised stonechip in 1litre cans applied with a schutz gun.
2, Personally I wouldn't spray the sump pan, rear axle, any suspension component and definitely not the propshaft or driveshafts, it will affect their balance.
3, I've never treated brake lines before greasing but can't see how it would hurt.

I use aqua steel and its great but it does need painting over to stop it from rusting again, i left bare metal that had been treated with aqua steel for 12 months and it was just starting to go again, when painted over it doesnt. Try and get any rust back to clean metal too and make sure you use a good degreaser before you apply any rust proofing of painting.

If you are using under seal i would recommend this

You can use it any where except brake discs and exhaust it all depends on what finish your trying to achieve it wont dry like hammerite gloss paint it has a like satin finish which stays pliable it is a underseal but with added waxoyl ive found it doesn't crack and therefore doesn't let water under it.You cannot paint over it like you can with stone chip

I have a MGB GT that comes for MOT every year with so much under seal I can't see any brake pipes or panels  , he just keeps applying it, god help him he ever needs to do any welding, If you can't see it you can't fail it.
