MK 7 2.2 fuel filter change

Postby twin22 » Mon Aug 29, 2016 10:09 am

Hi servicing my van today have spent the last hour looking on the net for videos on how to change a diesel filter on mk 7 2.2 diesel van. There is nothing. Any advice gratefully received.

Get new filter
Fill to The top with clean diesel
Remove old filter
Fit new filter
Start van, keep revs up for about a minute
Job done

What age of mk7, the procedure is different for pre and post 2012 models.

If it is pre 2012 our how-to section has instructions
MK7 - fuel filter change guide for Dummies

Also have a search, the top right of every page of this forum has a search box and button.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Out of interest is the euro 5 the same as the custom? I have a big plastic bowl under the engine n/s subframe which houses a pleated paper filter.

I've not checked the part numbers but the 2012 onwards filters look the same on both transit and custom.

That's how I do them, remove the lot and change the element on the bench, saves covering the gearbox in fuel!

Hi thanks for the replies. Have noticed some guys have had staring issues after changing the fuel filter, mainly down to not filling up the filter with diesel before putting it back on. Do any of you fill up the filter with a diesel cleaner redex or the like? I haven't changed it today noticed that the filter I have on the van has an electrical contact on the bottom the new filter hasn't but is the same number wk8158. My van is a 2010. Cheers

Swap the electrical contact from the old filter to the new one, it's just a screw in plug

Yes, most problems are because people don't prime the new filter. You can fill it with injector cleaner if you wish
