What Size Stereo

Postby t0m541 » Sun Sep 25, 2016 11:06 pm

Help a confused chap please..
I wish to upgrade the factory stereo unit in my 56 plate mk7.
It's currently a 6006? stereo, the 6cd one but has no Bluetooth hands free.
My mk8 work van has it and I've got rather used to using it
Also I chucked all my CDs in the bin years ago, so really it's not much use apart from radio 2 listening.
I've seen loads on eBay and some mention on here of aftermarket units.
But they are referred to as 7" units, this is what I find confusing.
I've measured the factory stereo and its 4 3/4 by 9 inches according to the hole in the dash
So where or why does everyone say that the replacement is 7"
As I don't was any type of disc capability there are some reasonably cheap units.
MP3 Bluetooth and Gps are my main criteria, plus touch screen
Any recommendations would be good

Should be a standard double din size if the original is a 6006 surely ?

Mk7 is larger than a double din and will need a facia adaptor to fit one.

There are units made to fit the larger factory space avalible on eBay.

Just be aware that changing your radio may give you bad reception. Mine has bad reception when I have my phone charger plugged in.

Mines the same aswell on the factory fitted unit. Anything on charge and listening to FM is a no go. Talk sport and charging is all I can get :)

It's the electronic gubbins in phone chargers that interfere with radio signal and if you've got a multi socket with USB as well it's even worse
I get same in a MAN TGM with a Blaupunkt stereo
