Well the warranty mob could not make the starter fault but some concerted pressure and Bosch sent a brand new one direct to me so fitted it , getting really good at it now hit the key and click of the solenoid is all we got grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr      It has to be between the relay and the starter WTF did I do to cop this ?

Just an update it p###ed me off so bad I decided to walk away before I burnt the bitch
So after a weekend away in the old vintage caravan and feeling relaxed this morning decided to go tackle the bitch once more and attempt a fix.
Bloody thing fired first hit and for the next 20 my concern is why WTF is going on and when will it crap itself again
I need this thing to be ultra reliable because we often travel to remote areas :?

I'd be keeping a spare starter and associated relays in the van...just in case. Have looked at "ALL" the earths? I had a loose negative battery clamp which gave me grief...thought it was a duff battery at first until I removed all the clamps, cleaned all the terminals and re-seated everything...has been fine ever since.

Just back from auto elec who did all the tests re voltage drop etc all good so removed the starter relay and did the power direct thing from the + block to the terminal in the box similar result starter spun 4-6 times then nothing for 10-20 hits then worked again this is the same solenoid clunk we had with the old starter then the new Bosch starter and now with the replacement for the first faulty? starter  so 3 different units  his diagnosis "faulty starter" but whats the odds of 3 in a row  .
Anyway his offer after talking to his supplier is fit a new one from him and if it is the same full refund and then maybe a match  My Bosch price online $185 his price for different brand $385 so we will see

You have to make sure it is a 2.4kw starter motor . Otherwise would be a hit and miss . I've ordered mine from Supercheap autos for $240 or so . You live downunder so the store name should point you in the right direction .

Thats where these came a friend is a manager there  from never again , they did replace the first one quickly however this time it may be a different struggle when asking for a credit IF the new auto elec supplied unit works , these were a direct from Bosch deal via supercheap. The new one is AUTOLITE/ FORD/ MOTORCRAFT STARTER MOTOR

If in Melbum there are even cheaper options ie: $172

Obviously not EVERY unit is faulty although I do notice they are no longer available via supercheap so something smells  It seems a pure solinoid problem sometimes it kicks sometimes it does not there is no voltage drop evident even when it does not kick in  Apparently this is not an uncommon problem with the current batch of bosch starters for many makes to the point most auto elecs will not touch them

Well the drama has come to an end the 3rd starter this time an Autolite unit from Ford has arrived been fitted and so far will not fault so it seems the lesson here is forget the elcheapo after market units and go genuine  not trusting it 1005 but pretty sure it is right 20 starts in a row and never missed a beat it got pretty hot but still never missed tomorrow morning will be the test after it has fully cooled over night but for the meantime I am a happy old bugga  my truck starts
