Prv testing and map sensor

Postby liamwoods1989 » Sun Jan 15, 2017 12:42 pm

Hi what volts should I be reading on the Prv valve on the fuel rail mk7 2.4 tdci transit and what volts on map sensor? I'm back probing on both sensors from ground to signal wire is this correct too thanks again

The prv is a purely mechanical device.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

That's the fuel rail pressure sensor.

The map sensor is possible a bosch manufactured device, might be worth searching the web on that premise.
The rail pressure sensor is probably a denso device.

The denso system uses a sensor powered from a 5 volt source, the signal is pulled to earth in the ecu when measured and is supposed to give a linear output.

I have information on the design and function of the denso and delphi systems but not on specific outputs from sensors.

so can't really test them properly :-/ all todo with these codes p0089 p2226

You can check them as ford ask in the diagnostics for P0089.

This only applies to the fuel rail pressure sensor.

Visually check for damage to the wiring harness.
Check the wires for shorts to earth or for open circuit.

If found rectify.

Then, if you have ids you can do the prv failure test.

The P2226 code is suggesting a wiring issue on the atmospheric pressure sensor. Same applies, check the wiring for shorts or open circuit. Us a live data check to see what pressure is but be very sure you know if it is absolute or gauge pressure.

If the rail pressure sensor if faulty and I get a new one will it need putting on computer to clear the code or will it automatically do this Cherrs for your help mate

By design the fuel rail pressure sensor is extremely robust and I would doubt it is the cause of the P0089 code.
From my understanding of the way the system works if the sensor fails the ecu will think there is no fuel pressure so you'll get a non start and a different code to P0089.

P0089 should be only be logged if the engine will run but the fuel rail pressure does not rise as expected when the engine revs rise.

Are you sure the prv is intact ?
Disconnect the leak off pipe and run the engine for a few seconds, if diesel comes out of the prv it has failed.
Reconnect the leak off pipe promptly after this test or you'll get too much air in the fuel system and have trouble starting it again.

What is your live data value for rail pressure when the engine is idling ?

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped

I have tested the prv valve and there was nothing coming out. When it was on computer the bloke said the fuel pressure at idle was a little low but when he reved it it made good pressure so he told me pump was good! But I know it still doesn't say why it was low on tick over :-/
