2007 Transit Randomly Cut Out !

Postby Sean83 » Tue Jan 17, 2017 12:44 am

Ok so I got in the van today and started it and it started up as normal. However, after about 20 seconds it just cut out. I went to start it back up and it would not turn over, I left it for about 30 seconds and in this time the key was in number 2 position and the rev counter and speedo needles were vibrating rapidly and the mileage/clock/trip Mileage was just a bunch of horizontal lines. After the 30 seconds or so it started as normal again and was fine the rest of the day. i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what may cause this. :? Many thanks!

We're probably both wrong, but they're both easy things to check before it gets expensive :P

well I just got 2 new batteries about 2 months ago from ford after the front one went and exploded (not sure why) causing damage to rear battery as well. but it was still original batteries so they would have been about 9 year old. And I paid about £120 each for batteries so hopefully not that again! :?

If your certain the batteries are good, then I'm with Al, ignition switch is next, however do a simple test.

Switch ignition on but don't start engine, turn on all lights, heater fan etc, wait for two minutes until battery relay disconnects, if lights etc dull or go off when relay disconnects, then the front battery is flat

I done this little test today and when I hear the relay click, everything still works as it should. So how do I know if it's ignition switch. :?

You'll get symptoms similar to what you have..!

The switches can be a bit of a barteward...sometimes they work, sometimes not...easiest thing to do is just replace it to rule it out....~15 sheckles and ten mins to change, job done.
