Help broken springs on mk7

Postby Loz1968 » Tue Jan 17, 2017 11:44 am

Hi there
Sorry if this is in the wrong place I don't post much but do read a fair bit
I have a mk7 2008 350 lwb rwd
I'm a locksmith so the van is loaded most of the time but to be honest I have had a lot more in it than at present
I did have a van vault that I took out 18months ago because of the weight in it.

So Friday pm go to go on a job start the van pull forward 3 ft and there was a loud bang from the rear (sounded like a tyre exploded)
Got out to find o/s leaf spring had snapped right next to the axle.....
Was going to get one from the breakers Saturday morning but when I went out the other side had snapped in the same place during the night

So I've ordered. 2 new springs and I'm waiting for them to arrive
It's just I can't seem to find other people with a break in the same way. I've had the van from new etc

And I've had loads more weight in the van than is in it now. Didn't go off reading in it just pulled away as normal...
Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this happen..
Thanks in advance for people's time

Loz

Something like this?
Mine snapped while fully loaded as I went over a speed bump.
They usually crack at the eyes at the end but there's nothing to say they wont crack at the axle.

Thanks for the replys guys
It puts my mind at rest to know it's not just mine that snapped at the axle.
I didn't find any other pictures with springs broken at the axle they all seemed to be broken at the hanger.

Just a case of fitting the damn things now lol

if your going to be fully loaded/overloaded like that a lot, it is worth thinking about an air assisted suspension kit

got mine on e bay for just under £400 inc compressor

worth every penny, not only does it make you look legally within weight, it changes the driving characteristics, cuts body roll, pushes the weight more onto the front axle, which in turn feels like the engine isnt struggling as much

makes a far more pleasant drive

and above all it takes the pressure off the main springs
