Thank you Knobby.

Do you know if the solid pipes on the actual steering rack from the pinion to rack have O rings? Found the pipes on eBay and ford parts catalogue but electronics parts catalogue doesn’t show any O rings for these pipes, only the 2 pipes part numbers?

Cheers

Those O rings are for the feed and return pipes from the pump and reservoir which I need as well, I was asking about the 2 solid rack pipes that are on the actual rack itself.

Ahh...Sorry, my apologies. .. I thought you meant the ones I mentioned as they're the only one's available from Ford.

The two high pressure "transfer" lines on the rack itself are actually part of the rack and not supposed to be removed....but I'm sure someone has possibly done them before...might pay to do a bit of googling/bootoob etc....! I've not had them out of mine.

Since the parts diagram shows the pipes but no seals I suggest that there are no seals fitted to the pipes.
The are probably a soft metal with a flared end like a brake pipe.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

That’s what I thought having looked at the pictures of actual pipes on eBay. Flared ends just like brake pipes. Just wanted to confirm my findings.

Sorry gents, only just seen the updates to this thread. The pipes that I needed to fit were on the rack itself & did not have or need any O rings. As one member suggested they were flared at each end, I just applied a little hydraulic thread lock to the nuts before assembly. I found a guy selling both the pipes needed for £23 for the pair, my local Transit dealer wanted £55.00 plus vat for each pipe! Guess which option I went for.

Did you have to remove the steering rack or is there enough room to replace these 2 rack pipes in situ?
