Help with Error codes mk7

Postby bobson6 » Wed Feb 15, 2017 11:59 pm

Hi all,

Looking for a bit of help with some error codes that came up on the diagnostic machine today. The van is slow to start on really cold mornings, and tends to hunt on tick over for the first 3ish mins, once warmed up drives and pulls perfectly and ticks over quietly.

Van details:

Mk2 2.2 tdci FWD
56 plate
60k

Codes are:

p0480 - fan 1 control circuit
p062b - internal control module fuel injector control performance
p0404 - EGR control circuit range/performance
p02a0 cylinder 2 balance - injector restricted

Thanks in advance

I'd be changing the egr, clear the codes then run it and see which codes come back

Thanks for that, will order the parts today.

Does replacing the EGR require a fuel system learn? or is it a simple case of swap it over?

Thanks

EGR Valve, SRV and PRV ordered. Fingers crossed that solves it.

Once they are all fitted, Is it then you run the fuel system learn? Help with this would be appreciated as this learn process is new to me.

Thanks Craig

The EGR doesn't require the learns... but replacing the SCV and PRV will...the engine will run without doing it, but will run poorly.

EGR replaced along with a new Crankshaft pulley and belts. Van is running sweet and ticks over really well.

However start her up tonight to move it on the yard and the powertrain light turned on (orange engine one), Any ideas? MAF?

not had chance to check for codes. Hoping my new ELM327 lead and FORscan can tell me.

Not had chance to clean the MAP sensor, but managed to get FORscan to work on my laptop and got the following

p1402 - EGR valve position sensor/wiring - Circuit voltage bellow threshold
P1402 - EGR System Fault - pending malfunction is expected to be confirmed

I fitted a new EGR Thursday and the van drives fine, I fitted one of the newer style ones with a black body from Transit Parts UK. Will this cause this problem? Do i need a PCM update? not sure if it has ever had one.

You may have a duff loom, check for poor or broken wiring at the EGR, MAF & MAP sensor connectors, also have a look at the loom where is passes over the starter, they're known to sometimes chafe & cause a bit of grief. MAF & MAP sensors rarely fail...the MAP sensor will be full of crap/spooge and require a good clean. PCM update won't hurt if it hasn't been done recently.

The new egr is fine i fitted it on my mk7 a few months ago and no problems reported.

There is the chance that the fault is with the wiring, this would make sense as you had the fault on both the old and new egr.
Or slimmer but still possible the new egr is faulty.
