MK7 Passenger seat rear torx bolt

Postby Hattons » Sat Feb 18, 2017 7:18 pm

Hey guys, i'd like to remove passenger seat. I've already removed 4 torx bolts but there is one in the centre rear. I was fighting with this bolt for at least an hour - still no results. It's spins in both directions little bit, but if i turn it anticlock wise after few mm it look fully screwed. I dont get it.

Anything should i know?

But it doesn't spin arround a lot, just few mm (about 4mm) each way... And when you turn it about 4 mm it looks bloody tight again (doesn't matter which direction you turn it).

Well i've impact driver, but don't have correct socket. Also it looks little bit danger to use impact because the bolt is special and T55 looks little bit loose. One bolt wasted all day god damn it

Ordered T55 1/2'' for collection tommorow. We'll see what happens next.
Also my impact is only 180NM so i don't think it'll have enough force if i can't turn it with wrench.

The shock is what loosens the bolt, not the force. You need to get plenty of weight on your gun when you do try. Torx bits round bolts for fun.

Take the bulkhead out for better access, it'll save you ages in the long run. :)

have similar issue with one of mine, except no turn at all, unless its a special impact torx but you will shatter it, the force mine needs i doubt even that would undo it, its corrosion on bolt and nut

dont use an impact gun on anything chrome unless you want to be showered in the shattered metal

im looking to having to drill the head off or use an air chisel to knock it off, to then see what i have to do to get the threaded part out, ie drill right through and re tap or use different bolt

From my experience the seat bolts are interference fit non-round bolts. They feel tight most of the way out. I had to use a pipe to extend the handle on my socket driver to get mine out. Once I got the leverage the bolts came out ok and no chewed heads. I also squirted plenty WD40 down the threads to help it move. Persevere.

Well bulkhead removal will take plenty of time coz I have to remove shelves as well. I'll try unscrew it with bigger wrench. If it won't work I'll remove bulkhead. One bolt causes problem arghh. All I want is install my amplifiers behind passenger seat.

Square plug round hole eh :!: The reason why they are tight is that the holes in the floor are not tapped and when the seat is fitted on the assembley line the bolts make their own thread when fitted :) Time is money
