lighting issues on ldv ( ford 2.4 duratorq)

Postby stephenwhite990 » Sun Mar 19, 2017 5:01 pm

My long running issues , since burning out the starter motor when trying to get air out of the fuel system due to replacing the faulty fuel injection pump , when I turn the light on the wiring by the two relays under the center of the dash (dim dip replays ???) starts to burn off the insulation , I get the drivers headlight on and the passenger side is off ??????? I dont know where or what to start looking at ??? HELP

You have a short circuit somewhere. First thing to do is to remove the fuse that powers that circuit. Replace it with a fuse that has already been blown, but with a (good) bulb wired across the fuse contacts. This will allow you to power up the circuit, but the bulb will limit the current flowing, preventing the wire from burning. Trace that wire through until you find a short.

Once you've found it and fixed the short, replace the burned wire. The insulation is no longer trustworthy, and you could get further shorts in future.

Agreed as above.

You have a short as that is causing the burning out.
Check under steering column for chaffing on the wiring loom.

Used to work for the ldv dealership and it was a common problem.
