New member - engine codes question

Hi, new member here. Just bought a MK7 with the Mazda/Duratec 2.3 16V motor - which is broken, unfortunately ... something in the crank area has gone crazy and broken out through the side of the block. So, a new engine is needed. My question is, whereabouts on the block can I find the engine code? And, will a motor from a Mazda, Ford Galaxy, or other platform fit the Transit? Sorry, that's two questions.

Any help much appreciated.
